WGU and Scholastic Celebrate Educators with Teacher Appreciation Sweepstakes

Recognizing the need for more and better classroom materials, WGU and Scholastic will award ten teachers $300 gift cards for school supplies as well as Scholastic classroom libraries for their classrooms. Up to 100 runners-up will each receive a Scholastic Professional Development book and a $25 Amazon gift card to support them in improving classroom instruction and building more comprehensive collections of in-class materials.

As a special encouragement to K-12 teachers to continue their education, WGU will also provide all entrants with an application fee waiver. As an institution committed to help fill the need for dedicated, high-quality teachers, WGU offers a flexible and affordable option for hardworking, busy educators. In March of 2015, the nonprofit university also announced the launch of the Excellence in Education Scholarship, awarding up to $400,000 worth of tuition to current and aspiring teachers. The application deadline for this scholarship has been extended to June 30, 2015.

Gallup-Purdue Index Finds WGU Grads Have Great Jobs, Great Lives
Graduates from WGU) are more likely than graduates from other U.S. universities to have the jobs they want, feel engaged at work, and have an emotional attachment to their alma maters, according to a study conducted by Gallup in 2014.

The study, which included 4,000 WGU graduates, compared the WGU responses to the national data included in the Gallup-Purdue Index. Gallup and Purdue developed the index to examine the long-term success of graduates as they pursue a good job and a better life. The index provides insight into the relationship between the college experience and whether college graduates have great jobs and great lives.

WGU Launches New Online Master’s Degree for Aspiring English Teachers
WGU has introduced a new master’s degree program for aspiring middle school or high school English teachers who have completed an undergraduate degree in English but still need a teaching credential. The WGU Master of Arts in Teaching English program, which prepares graduates for teacher licensure in all 50 states, is now accepting applicants.
